At birth, the puppies have no teeth as they do not engage themselves in a lot of activities. Another thing that the puppies lack at birth apart from the teeth is sight. The senses are not in existence at birth. With time, growth takes place and they are able to make use of the senses of touch, sight and smell. The puppies will not entirely rely on the mothers' milk and this demands for teeth in order to take in other solid foods thus this process takes place.

The milk teeth have to fall out in order for the adult teeth to come in. The baby teeth fall out at the age of three to six weeks. These teeth fall out and another set come in. It lasts for a period of several months. The milk teeth that have to fall out are 28 in number and are small and sharp. During the existence of the milk teeth, there are no molars as they are of no use to the puppy.
The process is known to cause a lot of pain and discomfort to the puppies and this causes the puppies to chew or bite anything in order to ease the pain.

After the falling out of the milk teeth, the teet finally come in.It is hard for one to find the milk teeth that have fallen out as the puppies swallow them. As the milk teeth fall out, at the same time the adult teeth erupt. Just like it is for humans, teething is painful and the puppies look for ways to massage their gums in order to get rid of the pain.
To ease the pain during puppy teething can be done in various ways; one can make use of the chicken soup. The soup has to be added onto the ice cube tray and be left to freeze. The soup cubes are then to be given to the puppy in order to suck them and the end result being that the pain will be eased.

Afterwards, the adult teeth will cut through the gums and at the same time the premolars will erupt. The molars are to follow after the premolars at the back of the jaw. The canines are then to follow and will be positioned in front of the premolars. At the end, the dog will have a total of 42 teeth with 21 on the upper jaw and the other 21 on the lower jaw.
